Deuteronomy 8:18
"And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives
you the power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant
which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day"

This text tells us that wealth should exist to establish and verify the covenant. It should not be squandered selfishly. Clearly God wants our needs to be met, and He wants us to have our heart's desires; but after out needs are met, what can be done with the surplus of His blessing? Can you live in more than one house at a time? God desires that we use our abundance to bless others.God wants us to have wealth, but money is only a part of wealth. A person can have millions and still be poor: poor in health, poor in peacefulness, and poor in friendships. Wealth is more than money and possessions. We need the wisdom both 1) to receive God's covenant of prosperity - to receive wealth without it controlling us; and 2) to see its breadth and intent for out whole being - that with wealth and health, peace and friends - we serve others. God's covenanted prosperity is always a means to an end and never an end in itself.
